This is NOT a sea creature, it's a gourd that grows on a vine in the same plant family as cucumbers.

As a plant, there are six or more species of Loofah and it is what's for dinner in some Asian locations.  Loofah Aegyptiaca (Egyptian) and Loofah Acutangula (Chinese) are the prime species on the market for exfoliation. It is a proven fact that Egyptian Loofah is the best when it comes to being skin friendly. It is softer, yet richer in fibers. In the curing process, many loofahs are exposed to bleach as a means of stripping the soft flesh off the gourd to make them; not so with our Egyptian Natural Loofah Sponges. Being 100% natural vegetable, of course they are biodegradable! Much like handmade soaps, it's a good idea to let the loofah dry between uses.
